I saw Margaret Cho (I'm
The One That I Want, CHO Revolution, Margaret
Cho: Assassin, Out There in Hollywood) do this stand up comedy
show live and clearly remember the straight couple sitting in front of us, squirming
and uncomfortable from the drag queen opener through most of Cho's raunchy monologue.
This is Cho at her most explicit :-) The dvd begins with an interview with
Cho and a separate one with her parents, who are so often the object of her comedy.
The show covers a visit to a gay bar in Scotland; her first colonic irrigation
(ick); if men had periods; her drag queen best friends in high school; sex clubs;
and sex with guys. The funniest spots once again come from impressions of
Cho's Korean mother. Most of the material is oriented towards gay men, but she
also talks about being fisted and eating pussy. The kind of woman she wants isn't
a Sharon Stone type, but a big bull dyke. "I want a woman who looks like
John Goodman." She covers the subject of equality and gay and lesbian
marriages. "We have to realize that a government that would deny a gay man
a bridal registry is a fascist state!" As is usual for her performances,
Cho ends the night with a political and personal message. Self esteem for those
oppressed because of their race, gender, size or sexual orientation is an act
of revolution! |
