This silly crime comedy is
filled with gay male characters, as the title suggests, but it also includes one
major lesbian role. Kenny (Glen Mulhern) arrives in London from Ireland to meet
his friend Byron (Brendan Mackey), who has been telling him how great life is
there. He quickly finds out that London's streets are definitely not paved with
gold. Although he's straight, Byron makes his living by giving blow jobs
to older gay men. Soon Kenny is doing the same, and they become embroiled in a
search for the murderer of "The Queen" (Michael Praed), whose lover
is rumored to keep large amounts of money in his bed. Once they find the murderer,
they think they'll also find the money, but the number of dead gay guys just keeps
mounting. Also looking for the cash is the owner of one of the gay bars,
a campy lesbian called "The Iron Lady" (Karen Sharman). She's evil and
conniving when it comes to money, and eventually she becomes "Dead Gay Girl
#1." It's a harmless screwball comedy that will keep you mildly entertained.
It is filled with stereotypes about poofy men, rich Jews, fat lesbians, African
men, etc, but these clichés are also confronted head on. Winner of the
Audience Award at the Dublin Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.
