San Francisco. Adam's (Josh
Charles) girlfriend Kate (Joanna Going) left him for Anne (JoBeth Williams), and
he's still in love with her. Jon Bon Jovi plays Adam's best friend Kevin, who
has an affair with Adam's next girlfriend. At the same time, Kevin is going after
Rebecca (Penelope Ann Miller), who is new in town. Rebecca turns Kevin down, but
has sex with Anne. Kate comes home early from coming out to her parents and finds
Anne and Rebecca in bed, which is convenient, since Anne has been trying to find
a way to break up with Kate. Confused yet? It turns out that Anne's thing
is "corrupting straight girls," and Kate is crushed. Rebecca, who works
with Kevin, is more into men and gets together with Adam. Meanwhile, Kate wants
to try getting back with Adam, while Rebecca is upstairs in his bed. By the next
night, Adam and Kate are back together. Adam dumps Rebecca, and he then gets to
hear about how Rebecca caused Kate and Anne's breakup. Soon Kate decides she really
is a lesbian and can't be with Adam even though she cares about him. She just
needs to be herself. Still confused? :-) I won't go through all the rest of the
relationship back and forths. It's not a bad film. It's just so complicated
and so unlikely that it misses the mark for a romantic comedy. As a plus, at least
Kate doesn't decide to go back to men!
