The name of this movie comes
from the feminist slogan, "A woman without a man is like a fish without a
bicycle." Unfortunately, unless you're heterosexual, the film doesn't live
up to its title. Jules (Jenna Mattison) is a woman with a perfect boyfriend
(Brad Rowe), but when she gets the lead in a local play, she falls for Michael,
the director (Bryan Callen). She's confused about what to do with her love life
and goes to stay with her friend Vicki (Jennifer Blanc) while she figures it all
out. Vicki's advice is that she should find herself rather than focus on men,
but Jules is all about getting the jerk Michael. When Jules finally hits
bottom emotionally, loyal friend Vicki reveals that she has been in love with
her since the third grade. They kiss, but Jules' reaction is less than positive
when she leaves and tells Vicki that they're just going to pretend that the conversation
never even happened. They do talk again, friends as long as Vicki understands
that it is an unrequited love. Jules ends up with Ben (Brian Austin Green), her
play co-star, but by then she understands that her own happiness doesn't depend
on a man. Vicki slips back into her role of supporting Jules without regard to
her own needs and feelings. Also includes a brief appearance from Jennifer
Sky (Amarice in "Xena"). |
