Fire Island is a well known
New York summer resort for gay men, and it is also the subject of one of the world's
most boring reality tv shows. This Bravo "docu-soap" follows the lives
of two summer share households, one with all gay men and one all lesbian house. The
men are often portrayed as bitchy, arguing about how many guests are in the house,
who does the work to prepare for parties, or covering up for someone who is cheating.
Everyone is good looking and in shape in their swimming suits - but most of the
men are just unlikable. There's a lot of drama over nothing. The women are
the odd girls out on what one of them calls "testosterone island." Susan
and Vilma hold the lease on the house and have invited single friend Toni, plus
couple Cynthia and Jackie, to relax on the beach and party with them. The
drama we see here centers on Cynthia and Jackie, who have two young children.
The agreement is that on certain weekends, they must find a babysitter, and the
others aren't happy when instead, they are forced to look after the kids. Meanwhile
Cynthia and Jackie are having relationship issues, with Cynthia staying probably
only because of the kids. All in all, the series was not very interesting,
and the skimpy dvd extras are just more of the same.
