This short film (40 minutes)
is really a must see in the small group of erotic films made for and by lesbians.
Writer/director Nicole Conn (Claire of the
Moon, little man) has created a lush Victorian romance, heavy on
mood and sensual sounds and images. It's what I imagine a lesbian Harlequin Romance
might be if put on the screen. Byron (Melissa Hellman) has just arrived
from Paris to find solitude for her work as a writer in the seaside village of
Baycliff in 1883. For the sculptress Cynara (Johanna Nemeth), bored and isolated,
meeting the crossdressing Byron immediately lights a spark. She is inspired to
sculpt the female form in luscious detail, and the erotic poet within Byron is
aroused. Much of the film follows their courtship, riding horses on the
beach, taking long walks and playing chess. Finally in front of a smoldering fire,
the buildup of desire finds the two women kissing, and Byron works her way towards
removing the corset of her love. Then comes the payoff of two beautiful
women in bed together, images of their bodies intertwined in a sensuous dance
of passion. This is an artistic erotic film, so if you are looking for simulated
sex, this isn't it. It's long on romance, with a period voice over, soft and sexy.
