Meili (Teresa Cheung) is
a Hong Kong real estate agent who meets Madam Umeki (Keiko Matsuzaka), a woman
who asks her to rent out her apartment. Meili hangs out in the place and seems
to be stalked by a policeman on the beat. While she's there, the film cuts to
a young Madam Umeki (Korean transsexual Ri-su Ha) and her boyfriend Kim (Sho).
It seems that the madam used to be a man and changed her sex for Kim. Both are
into S&M. Cut to present day Madam Umeki, who comes back to the apartment
and places a lingerie-clad Meili in restraints, flogging her lightly. Then back
to melodrama over Kim, who somehow comes back to life as a young man. In
the present day ... Meili is in leather, with Madam Umeki leading her by her collar.
Soon she is crawling on her knees to Kim, and the two have rough sex. If
you're bisexual and into S&M, perhaps this is a movie for you. If not, stay
away! The content between the two women isn't much, and I can honestly say that
this is one of the most confusing films I have ever forced myself to sit through.
The past and the present collide in strange ways, and I really didn't care enough
to be able to figure out what it all means. It received several Hong Kong
Film Award nominations, and I generally like art films, but not this one! |
