Best In Show is a
fake documentary covering the dog show world. It follows and interviews several
groups of owners getting ready for the Mayflower Dog Show. There's the flaming
gay couple Stefan and Scott (Michael McKean, The Brady Bunch Movie, and
John Michael Higgins) with their Shih Tzus; the nerds (Catherine O'Hara, Orange
County, and Eugene Levy) and their terrier; the troubled yuppie couple (Parker
Posey, Tales of the City, and Michael Hitchcock) and their Weimaraner;
and the good ol' boy (film director and writer Christopher Guest) with his blood
hound. Sheri Ann (Jennifer Coolidge, The
Broken Hearts Club) is also an owner and trophy wife of an ancient wheelchair
bound husband (Patrick Cranshaw). She travels to the show with dog handler Christy
Cummings (Jane Lynch, Little Black Boot, Fabulous!,
Promtroversy, "The L Word"), who has nicknamed Rhapsody in White,
their female poodle, Butch. When Butch wins her category, Christy unexpectedly
runs over to kiss Sheri Ann, causing Scott to comment, "Rhapsody has two
mommies." Six months later, Christy and Sheri Ann are producing "American
Bitch," a magazine related to the issues of the lesbian purebred dog owner. This
is an amusing comedy focusing on the quirks of each character, Christy and Shari
Ann included. And you'll have to watch to find out who wins Best in Show. (Most
of these actors also appear in Guest's For
Your Consideration.) |
