Interesting concept. This
film follows three women of different ages - 20, 30 and 40 - and looks at their
lives during these stages. The stories are interwoven, although the women do not
know one another. Jie (Angelica Lee) arrives in Taipei to start a singing
career and moves in with another young woman, Tong Yi (Kate Yeung). They're having
the time of their lives. 30ish Xiang (Rene Liu) is a flight attendant whose
love life is a mess, moving between lovers, including a married man. Her struggle
is to find stability and a long term relationship. 40-something Lily (writer/director
Sylvia Chang) finds out that her husband is having an affair and divorces him
after many years of marriage. She is finding her place in the world again and
beginning to date. The lesbian content in this film involves the 20ish
friends. Tong Yi has feelings for Jie, suggesting that they make love. But Jie
rejects her advances by laughing, putting a wedge in their close friendship. It's
only when it's too late that Jie reciprocates. Received Best Actress and
Best Supporting Actress nominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Nice character
studies, although two of the stories are very focused on finding the right man. |
