This is quite an ordinary, slow moving comedy about unhappy couples who cheat on one another. Jerry (Ben Stiller) is a drama professor living with Terri (Catherine Keener, Being John Malkovich, If These Walls Could Talk I), an advertising writer whom Jerry’s friends think is too unfeminine.
His friend Barry (Aaron Eckhart, Possession, Nurse Betty) is also having trouble with his wife Mary (Amy Brenneman, Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her, Nevada). Jerry and Mary begin having an affair.
At the same time, Terri meets Cheri (Nastassja Kinski, The Hotel New Hampshire), and the two women start a relationship together.
Friend Cary (Jason Patric) is a jerk who sleeps around and admits to raping another boy in high school. The three men often get together and talk about sex.
That’s about it. It’s more of a guy’s movie, and Cheri and Terri’s affair isn’t all that interesting or exciting. (AB)
