Watch this film for Wendy Crewson! Made for Lifetime Television, An Unexpected Love chronicles the romance of Kate (Leslie Hope) and Mac (Crewson). Kate is in an unhappy marriage with two kids, and when she files for divorce and finds a new job, sparks fly. She and her new boss Mac have a mutual attraction and eventually act on it.
Kate comes out to everyone in a short span of time, goes through the husband threatening to take the kids thing, the mother who disowns her, the teenage daughter who doesn’t understand, going through hell … but quickly everything is ok and life is grand. While it’s great to have a lesbian romance that actually ends happily, Kate’s struggle is a little too neat and unrealistic.
But I still recommend this film. It’s great to see 40-ish women in love, and Wendy Crewson does a wonderful job of creating the sexy, leather clad Mac character. Who wouldn’t fall for her?
Crewson also appeared in Better Than Chocolate (unrecognizable as the mother) and Mercy. Lee Rose (A Girl Thing, The Truth About Jane) wrote and directed. (AB)
