Ok, admit it. You’ve heard about how bad this Spike Lee movie is, but you’re curious. Is it really that horrible? I sacrificed myself by watching it for you … and it really is that bad. Any redeeming social commentary on corporate greed is swallowed up by the insulting male fantasy that lesbians really want to sleep with men. The tagline says it all, ‘One heterosexual male. 18 lesbians. His fee $10,000… each.’
Jack (Anthony Mackie, Brother to Brother) is a corporate whistleblower in his biotech firm and loses his job. His ex-girlfriend Fatima (Kerry Washington) comes to him with a proposal to pay him $10,000 to impregnate both her and her girlfriend Alex (Dania Ramirez, Little Black Boot). They don’t consider a sperm bank because ‘that’s like shopping for Gucci at Walmart.’ Jack goes with it because he needs the money. Oh brother.
Fatima dresses in lingerie and heels to get boinked by Jack. Fatima the businesswoman then sets up a business for Jack as a ‘fertilization service.’ She gets 10% of each $10,000 fee, and Jack ‘services’ a group of ‘glam dykes,’ as one refers to the group. Unfortunately, we have to watch them all in bed with him, enjoying it.
It’s too bad Spike didn’t make a drama focusing on the corporate issues Jack faces. That might have been an intelligent commentary, rather than this mix of themes with a degrading portrayal of lesbians who want d***. (AB)
