Margaret Cho is always provocative, and this live show taped in Washington, DC is filled with political commentary. The Bush administration and the religious right are comically skewered by a very angry Cho.
On red and blue states, ‘Now we have a color coded map to where all the stupid people are.’ She rails against Christian groups working to restrict women’s sexuality and gay and lesbian rights, backed by George Bush, ‘the most embarrassing president in history.’
There’s more about the gay community, of course, and vacationing in Provincetown, but Assassin is more politically serious than previous shows. Not as much about sex this time, although there are some requisite drag queen and pussy jokes. Still fun to watch, but this wouldn’t be my first choice for Cho at her laugh out loud funniest.
