Hot Chick

Jessica (Rachel McAdams, Mean Girls) is the ‘mean girl’ of her school – popular, pretty, rich and just plain mean to most of her classmates. She steals a pair of magical earrings that, unbeknownst to her, switch the bodies of people if they each wear one of them. When she loses one of the earrings at a gas station, Clive (Rob Schneider) picks it up, and the two later find themselves switched.

What commences are lots of jokes about body hair, penises and the like, with Schneider actually doing a fine job of playing a self-absorbed teenage girl. His feminine mannerisms, speech and dress also lead to a fair number of gay jokes.

There are a few laughs in this stupid comedy, but it gets old quickly. By the end when she gets her body back, Jessica has learned a lesson about appreciating everyone just as they are. This includes her crossdressing little brother and the stereotypical witch and fat girl at school, who help find Clive.

Jessica’s best friend April (Anna Faris) is fascinated by Jessica in a man’s body. She also lets herself feel things that she previously could not express. She and Jessica go to the prom and kiss. April is swooning, but Jessica only kissed her to make her boyfriend jealous. When April lets her know that she is in love, no matter which body Jessica is in, basically Jessica just blows her off. Jessica is in love with her boyfriend, and April will just have to accept that fact (which she apparently does with no problem).  (AB)
