Desi’s (Desi del Valle, Some Prefer Cake, Costa Brava) got a problem. She’s been dumped by her girlfriend Adela (Rosa Medina) and is having a hard time getting back into the dating scene. With her friends’ help, we watch her search for a new love, going through the pain of blind dates and mismatches.
In particular, our nineteen year old narrator JT (Yesenia Aguirre) is concerned about Desi’s love life, and she has a thing for her as well. JT is a skateboarder with the big dream of meeting comedian Marga Gómez (Laughing Matters, The D Word, Fabulous!). Marga makes a brief appearance.
The film is set in San Francisco amidst a Latina lesbian community, and it moves easily between English and Spanish. Writer/director/producer Mary Guzmán (After the Break, Mind If I Call You Sir) also drew the animations interspersed throughout the production.
Unfortunately, this is one of those lesbian films without professional acting. Its intentions are good, especially as we see underrepresented Latinas on film, but many scenes seem forced, and it drags on at just over an hour long. (AB)
