We meet Alex (writer/director Trish Doolan) while she rushes around trying to arrange the perfect wedding shower for her friend April (Maria Cina). She seems stressed, and as a whirlwind of wacky, issue-laden guests arrive, things only get worse. By the time April and her fiancé Paulie (Randall Batinkoff, Higher Learning) arrive, it’s clear that something else is going on.
Meanwhile, two of the guests are in the midst of breaking up. Sasha (Honey Labrador, “Queer Eye for the Straight Girl,” Promtroversy, Little Black Boot) retreats upstairs to paint out her frustrations, while her lover Sophie (Arly Jover) makes excuses for her inability to commit to their relationship. Other guests include the gay male friend, the virginal cousin, a porn star sister, mothers of the bride and groom, and a collection of other characters.
Suddenly, Alex breaks up the revelry by revealing that she and April were lovers for five years, outing both of them to most of the guests for the first time. Both women are still in love. As they remember the good times and express anger over what happened between them, will April decide to marry Paulie after all or go back to Alex, her true love?
It’s a romantic comedy with a happy ending. There are a lot of characters, some of whom are a bit annoying with jokes that fall flat for the first half hour, but it does have its good moments. Produced by Doolan and Labrador. (AB)
